Biography
Hyper Go-Go is a UK electronic/dance music duo formed in 1986 by James Diplock and Alex Bell.
Their infectious beats and euphoric melodies captured the essence of early UK rave culture, propelling them to chart success and establishing them as one of the leading acts in the genre. With their energetic live performances enhanced by many distinguished guest vocalists, Hyper Go-Go became renowned for their ability to ignite dance floors and create an atmosphere of pure exhilaration. Tracks like "High" and "Never Let Go" exemplified their signature sound, blending driving rhythms with uplifting synth and piano riffs to create anthems that resounded with audiences worldwide.
Background
James and Alex met at high school in the early 1980s and, after discovering a shared passion for electronic music, began writing and performing together, initially as members of the four-piece synth band Communiqué (1982-85) and later as a duo. With the growing influence of Chicago House and Detroit Techno music in ‘87-‘88 their sound evolved and when the U.K. rave scene took off at the end of the 1980s Hyper Go Go established themselves as a dynamic live act - bringing their technology to sweaty nightclubs and muddy fields.
A string of “white label” releases followed and their 1991 piano anthem “High” received a great deal of interest. The track was issued in early 1992 on the influential Hooj Choons label and ultimately gained a worldwide release via Deconstruction/BMG in August of that year propelling it to the top of the U.K. Dance Chart and into the mainstream Top 40.
In October 92 Hyper Go-Go joined with the newly established Positiva label and their next single “Never Let Go” also topped the Dance Chart in early 1993. Further commercial success followed with “Raise” and “It’s Alright” in 94 and a writing collaboration with House music legend Adeva resulted in the international hit “Do Watcha Do” in 1996. A limited edition album, “National Anthems”, featuring previous singles and new mixes was issued by Avex Trax that year and a new version of “High” again reached the U.K Top 40. Their award-winning dynamic live shows continued throughout the 90s in the U.K and internationally. James & Alex were joined by many superb vocalists and performers for their live shows with a special shout of thanks to Sally-Anne, Claire, Kate, Bryan, Marc, Kirk, Gav, Mat, Richie and everyone involved over the years.
James and Alex also achieved further commercial success with their Electroset project (FFRR/London Records) including the hits “How Does It Feel?” and “Sensation”. In 1993 they established the Zaptrax label and released works from various artists including MSQ, Kirk & Fox, Compufonic and others.
They have also provided production and remix services for a wide range of artists and clients, plus soundtrack and sound design work during their long career.
Although now residing on different continents, James and Alex continue to work together today and, with the resurgence of 1990s dance music, enjoy bringing their authentic sound to a new generation.
